The Municipal Broadband CommitteeMunicipal Broadband

In 2018, the Joint Municipal Broadband Taskforce was formed and asked to explore ways to accelerate the deployment of next-generation and fiber optic networks in Farmington and Farmington Hills, and determining how these networks can best serve the public. High-speed broadband internet access is a vital component in the City’s plan for economic growth and development. The Taskforce began with the premise that broadband internet is a critically important 4th utility, along with electricity, gas and water. Throughout the research project, the Taskforce explored options that would create equal access to high-speed, reliable, and affordable broadband internet service to every home and business within our two cities. Below are the some of the research, white papers, TedX programs, and other data used by the Taskforce along with the presentation of findings and recommendations made to the two City Councils in March of 2019.
