Recycling Overview
Residents of Farmington Hills recycle at
a rate higher than average for the state of Michigan. Over
31% of the garbage and yard waste generated annually is recycled
rather than being sent to the landfill. Participation at
annual household hazardous waste days also ensures proper disposal
and/or recycling of oil-based paint, pesticides, chemicals,
solvents, used computer equipment, and other hazardous materials,
therefore removing them from the solid waste stream.
The City of Farmington Hills provides recycling through RRRASOC
the Resource, Recovery and Recycling Authority of Southwest
Oakland County. The City is one of seven member communities
that participated in a private/public partnership and built a
Materials Recovery Facility (MRF) on Eight Mile Road in
Southfield. Other member communities of RRRASOC include
Farmington, Novi, South Lyon, Southfield, Walled Lake, and Wixom.
RRRASOCs Materials Recovery Facility processes the recyclable
items that go at the curbside in the green recycling bin.
RRRASOC also provides Farmington Hills residents with access to
two regional recycling drop-off centers (in Novi and Southfield)
and offers tours and environmental education.
