Pistol Purchase Permits (License to
Purchase – LTP)
Applications for a License to Purchase (LTP) a handgun may be
completed at the Records Section, 8:30 AM - 6:30 PM Monday, 8:30
AM - 4:00 PM, Tuesday - Friday. Firearms purchased with LTP
permits must subsequently be registered pursuant to state law.
Requirements to obtain a LTP:

18 years of age (to purchase from a private
citizen in MI) or 21 (to purchase from a federally licensed
dealer)

Valid identification showing a
Farmington
Hills residential address (not a PO box)

US citizen or
Resident Legal Alien (must show I-551 card)
-
Must pass the state gun safety exam with a score
of at least 70%
-
Must not be otherwise legally prohibited from
owning or possessing a firearm
(i.e.: felony conviction; assault conviction)
All applicants will have a clearance check completed,
regardless of the number of times they have applied previously.
LTP applications will be processed, and permits issued, with due
speed and diligence, as required by state law.
There is no fee for a License to Purchase (LTP). One
permit is needed for each weapon.
Requirements to obtain a Concealed Pistol License (CPL)

US citizen or
Resident Legal Alien who has resided in Michigan for at least
six months

at the Command Desk in the main lobby of the police station.

Fingerprinting
Non-criminal / applicant fingerprinting is done by the
department’s Records Section. A fee of $10 is charged for
the first two cards; additional cards are $1 each. You need not
be a resident to obtain this service. No appointment is
necessary. Fingerprinting services are available Monday,
8:30 AM – 6:30 PM; Tuesday-Friday, 8:30 AM to 4:00 PM.
The U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Office in Detroit requires
that prints be taken by them for U.S. immigration purposes.

Child fingerprinting is done, by special request, through the
Crime Prevention Section. This is generally done in
conjunction with a special event at a school or in the
community. There is no charge for
child fingerprinting, but the child must be accompanied by a
parent or guardian. In some circumstances, a take-home
do-it-yourself fingerprint packet may be given to the parent.
Obtaining Copies of Reports
Copies of incident reports and traffic accident reports may be
obtained through the Records Section, 8:30 AM – 7:00 PM Monday,
8:30 AM – 4:30 PM, Tuesday – Friday. Reports are generally
available 48 to 72 hours after the incident or accident occurred.
In order to obtain a copy of a report, either the requestor’s
name must appear in the report or a notarized authorization must
be presented. Contact the Records Section for further
details. Certain information, which is governed by state and
federal privacy laws, is always removed from the report, prior to
copying. This may include, but is not limited to, phone numbers,
witness information, suspect information (until a case is
completely adjudicated), and medical data.

$1.50 per page for pages 4 - 10
$1 per page for pages 11 and up

Accident Reports On-Line
Effective September 1, 2009, copies of traffic accident
reports (UD10s) became available on the Internet. For a small
fee, reports may be obtained by visiting
https://payments.clemis.org/extservices.
Record Clearance
Records clearances are conducted on adults only for contacts
with the City of Farmington Hills. A person requesting a clearance
on anyone but themselves must have a notarized authorization from
that person. Fee for a Records clearance is $10 and it may be
requested at the Records Section, 8:30 AM – 6:30 PM Monday, 8:30
AM – 4:00 PM, Tuesday – Friday.
A request for a “Criminal Conviction History” can be made
through the Michigan State Police. It must include the subject’s
full name, race, sex and date of birth, or fingerprints and sent
directly to the Michigan State Police. For further

Registered Sex Offender Address
Verification or Change of Address Notification
Mandated registered sex offender address verification or change
of address notification can be accomplished at the Police
Department during specified dates of the fifteen day registration
periods in January, April, July and October. An annual
schedule of these dates will be provided to affected individuals
and is also available by contacting the Records Section at (248)
871-2720. Registrants must provide and display a valid,
up-to-date, Michigan driver license or identification card at
the time of verification and must check in at the Command Desk
in the main lobby of the police station.
