Emergency medical incidents represent the majority of all
emergency calls handled by the Fire Department. Emergency Medical
Technicians and Paramedics are prepared to provide immediate and
effective care in the event of an illness or injury.
Since 1997 the Fire Department has been
providing Advanced Life Support service. This allows our
paramedics to provide life-saving treatment on the scene of an
emergency. In cases of possible heart attack, paramedics now
have the ability to obtain a 12-lead electrocardiogram at the
scene of an emergency and transmit the information to the
hospital, which allows advanced treatment decisions to be made
before the patient arrives at the hospital.
